Scholarships for High School Seniors
Q: Are there any scholarships designed for high school seniors?
A: Yes. In fact, two of the largest scholarship opportunities are the essay contests designed specifically for high school seniors.
The Ayn Rand Institute offers two essay contests. Both contests are available every year and both come with top prizes of $10,000 for the first place winners. Plus, there are thousands of dollars available to students who come in second, third, and fourth place.
Students are required to read either one of Rands classic novels: The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged. Then, the student may choose from a series of essay questions on the Ayn Rand Institute web site.
Essays will be judged on both style and content. Judges will look for writing that is clear, articulate, and logically organized. Winning essays must demonstrate an outstanding grasp of the philosophic meaning behind the novels.
Essay submissions are evaluated in a fair and unbiased multi-round judging process. To ensure the anonymity of our participants, essays are graded without cover sheets. Winners names remain unknown to judges until after the essays have been ranked and the contest results finalized.
Be aware that all essays will be checked with I-thenticate plagiarism detection software.
